Jesse's gone, zoo picnic, class projects.
For the past week, Jesse had been telling me about his courses and how they weren't going the way he wanted. The courses here are very loose compared to the classes I have at SVA so I can somewhat understand. Fortunately for me, I am one out of eighteen fine arts exchange students, Jesse is the only one in his major. The teachers seem to be on their own schedule sometimes, but I understand they are busy being in two places at once. It came to a point where Jesse told me he was thinking of going home. I haven't been blogging much since he told me because I've been trying to be there for him (and also convince him otherwise).
If I'm honest, I believe that studying abroad is more than just about what you're learning in the classroom. If the courses were better here than at home, I wouldn't be studying abroad but a full time student in Rotterdam. It's about meeting new people, getting a new perspective, opening new opportunities, and etc. On the bright side, he has made a lot of friends that showed him how much he'll be missed at Sarah's get together when everyone took a goodbye shot for him. It was a really great party!
The next day, I made Jesse "Scottish" or "American" pancakes. I'm not sure what the difference is, I should probably look it up. Jesse actually sent me a link of all the different types of pancakes out there in the world. It's actually really interesting!

His father came the next day, which I had the pleasure of meeting. He was such a cool man!
The day after that a group of us had gone down to the petting zoo and had our lunch by the water. It was such a nice day out! It's crazy how the weather fluctuates in Rotterdam. It seemed as though everyone decided to take advantage of the weather as well though!
Lastly, I think it's really funny that the semester had started a month ago and we're just now beginning to assign our projects. I've signed up for an elective called Future Thinking where we create an idea that has a concept dealing with the future in some way. It was really easy jumping into this class because I already had an idea that I started at the end of last semester. It will give me a chance to delve deeper into the subject! I've also signed up for Tine's cesspool project, Rolf's table and zine project, and Juan's critique sessions. It's about time I start making art again!
